An Evening with Michael Sheen

BAFTA and American Cinematheque at the Aero Theatre present ‘An Evening With Michael Sheen’…

US audiences will have their first chance to see his fabulous performance as British comedy legend Kenneth Williams in Fantabulosa, followed by the 1969 Williams sidesplitter Carry On Camping. Michael will be present for a discussion between these two films.

This one night only event will take place at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica, CA on Thursday, August 26 from 7:30pm. Tickets can be purchased via Fandango.

New Tron Legacy Picture

We finally got a better look at Michael’s Tron Legacy character Castor… The first promotional image has been added to the Gallery! Click on the thumbnail below to see a somewhat bigger version.

And this is how Castor is being described: he is a vivacious and well-known program in the Grid who runs the End of Line Club at the top of the tower in Tron city. The Club is a social hotspot where programs can find anything they want: a nonstop dance party, company and relaxation,… if the price is right.

Manic Street Preachers Videoclip

NME reports that Michael will appear in the Manic Street Preachers‘ new videoclip for (It’s Not War) Just the End of Love due to be shot in early August.

“It looks like Michael Sheen is gonna be in the video, which we’re really thrilled about,” says bassist Nicky Wire. “We’ve tried to recreate the classic ’70s chess match between Kasparov and [Bobby] Fischer. That’s the kind of vibe behind it. It’s real ’70s Russia – just that idea of ‘it’s not war, just the end of love’, I think a chess game really fits that.”

Manic Street Preachers release ‘(It’s Not War) Just The End Of Love’ on September 13, a week ahead of new album ‘Postcards From A Young Man’.

New Movie Projects

In a very recent interview with FearNet, Michael spoke about two new movie projects that are on the horizon for him… We are excited about these already!

“I’m doing a film that I’m playing Edgar Allan Poe in, about the last few months of Poe’s life. And I’m producing it as well. Hopefully we’ll be shooting it next year in Toronto. The title is The Raven, imaginatively enough. Or that’s what it’s called at the moment anyway.” Regarding Elric (Michael Moorcock’s famed sword-and-sorcery character), Sheen simply said, “We’ve got plans maybe to do something with Elric as well. We’ll see what happens with that.”

Today’s Press Highlights

Speaking at Comic-Con, Michael Sheen revealed that his approach to playing the villainous Castor in Disney’s forthcoming blockbuster Tron: Legacy was informed by the master chameleon – David Bowie. “I was going for a sort of albino Ziggy Stardust,” Sheen told the Guardian. “A one-man walking Andy Warhol Factory.”

“Joe wanted the character to look completely different to everyone else in the Tron world,” Sheen noted, “so whereas everyone is in black, he’s in white: white hair, no eyebrows. It’s a good choice, I think. Castor is a character who reflects and assimilates everything around him, then adapts to survive. I liked the idea of him as a shape-shifter who keeps reinventing himself, and the obvious reference there has to be Bowie.”

Comic Con Reports

For Sheen, how is it to be at your first Comic-Con? Michael Sheen – “It’s fantastic. I was supposed to come for a few years, with Underworld, Alice in Wonderland, Twilight. I wasn’t able to. I wanted to build up a huge head of steam and be carried through the streets and crowned the new king of Comic-Con, so now you have the chance to make this boy’s dreams come true.”
