Synopsis
The focus is on a young couple (Perdican and Camille) – cousins, separated by their education – who are reunited by the man’s father, the Baron, in the hope that they will make an ideal marriage. They certainly seem made for each other, both of them brainy and sexy. But then Camille announces her intention of becoming a nun. Her decision looks to be primarily motivated by a fear of love’s instability and the wayward power of sex. It is both a desperate attempt to grab on to something absolute and also a semi-conscious stratagem to bind Perdican to her the more by causing him to suffer.

Reviews
Michael Sheen is quite thrilling as Perdican, his wide eager smile increasingly like a net straining with the weight of his doubts and disappointments
Michael’s View
Just in terms of process – how you explore and develop a character – I learned so much from working with him (Declan Donnellan). I use everything he taught me on that now in every part I do
