Hamlet Reviews

We will continue updating this post with links to Hamlet reviews…

All this puts the focus on Michael Sheen, who is fascinating to watch. He is intelligent, inventive and full of insights; the dismissive lines over Polonius’s corpse are here imbued with the profound regret of a man who is aware he has severed ties with the analyst on whom he depended. Sheen also delivers the “What a piece of work is man” passage with a beautiful consciousness of human potential.

- Photoshoots 2011: Set #05 (new!)

We’ve seen him as Tony Blair, Brian Clough and David Frost. But what of the man himself? William Leith tries to find out…

His face is still sharp and angular, although the beard makes it seem fuller. He has a longish nose that comes to a point at the end and a delicate, expressive mouth. He’s slim and slightly above average height. He’s one of our best actors. He’s absolutely brilliant. You could say that he’s made a career of impersonating men who are very bright, but also deeply flawed. He’s been Tony Blair three times, most famously in The Queen. He’s done Brian Clough, Kenneth Williams and David Frost, all with uncanny precision. He has said that when he plays someone, he looks for similarities between that person and himself. He was married to Kate Beckinsale, one of the most beautiful women in the world by any reckoning. Now he’s about to play Hamlet on the London stage. But who is he?

Today’s Press Highlights

It was a bit of a surprise to see that the “Breaking Dawn: Part 1″ trailer—which, at least in terms of the book’s plot, does not include the Volturi—opened with a shot of a wedding invitation being brought to Volterra. That confirms the fact the Volturi will remain a present part of the series like they did in “Eclipse,” even though they don’t technically show up until the end of “Part 2.”

Midnight In Paris Reviews

The first reviews for Midnight In Paris are in…

For anyone whose historical and cultural fantasies run anywhere near those that Allen toys with here, “Midnight in Paris” will be a pretty constant delight… Sheen has fun with his fatuous walking encyclopedia role… Gil’s fiancee cheats on him with an insufferable know-it-all, played by the deliciously odious Michael Sheen… If first impressions are anything to go by, then the film is sure to be a hit. There was laughter and applause from even the most demanding critics indicating a possible stream of excellent reviews for the seasoned director… The ‘psudeo-intellectual’ played with real relish by Michael Sheen. In perhaps my favourite of his roles when not playing a real life person, Sheen plays a snobbery and supposedly super intelligent middle-class guy who seems to know everything about well everything…

Today’s Press Highlights

On The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: “Oh this is very amped up, yeah,” Sheen revealed. “This is, I think we spent something like four or five weeks shooting that scene and it takes up a big chunk of the movie,” he added. “And it’s got extraordinary things going on in it, so it certainly won’t be anticlimactic.”

Despite it’s stop-and-start beginnings, everything we’ve been hearing recently about Johnny Depp and Tim Burton’s “Dark Shadows” feature film adaptation sounds like music to our ears. Michael Sheen was rumored to have signed on to play Roger Collins. But MTV News spoke with the actor at the “Midnight in Paris” press junket today and learned that, unfortunately, he will not be appearing in the film.
