Michael Sheen Superstar

In the eyes of all Port Talbot residents, that is exactly what he is, after the 72 hour production of The Passion that took place during the Easter weekend. Michael has done his town proud. As stated in The Guardian review, “This production is transforming and uplifting, and Port Talbot’s future starts the very second The Passion ends”.

We have updated our The Passion page with a more detailed cast list and have added a number of new pictures to the Gallery. Thanks to Ingrid, Gareth, Julia, Melanie and Mongo for allowing us to post them here. If you also have pictures that you’d like to share, feel free to e-mail us.

Today’s Press Highlights

Mr. Sheen’s character (in The Passion) is known simply as The Teacher, eschewing religious nomenclature, a choice the actor expanded upon. “There aren’t a lot of people in Port Talbot called Jesus, as far as I’m aware, so it wouldn’t make a huge amount of sense,” Mr. Sheen said, smiling. “I’m not a Christian,” he said, preferring what he calls a more “mythic” reading of the story that, yes, does involve both a cross and a resurrection.

More Passion Promo

The Passion follows the shape of the original narrative, but it will transpose the story from Jerusalem 2,000 years ago to 21st-century Port Talbot, and examine what happens when a charismatic teacher (Sheen) arrives in town and challenges a powerful authority figure. “It’s a sort of riff around the story of the Passion,” explains Sheen.
